Outdoormaster Whale Pump Summary

The Outdoormaster Whale pump is a universal electric pump that can inflate your SUP, boat, kayak, etc. thanks to the valve connectors that come with the pump. The Whale is battery-powered, which means you can inflate your SUP or boat anywhere. You don’t need to be near a power outlet or car 12V socket.

The Whale pump is powerful, nicely designed, and its 6000 mAh battery can store enough charge to inflate 3 SUPs in a row.

Owning a SUP is great for a myriad of reasons. SUPing is fun, good exercise, a great chance to be outdoors, and it’s portable. Except for the inflation bit…

Using a manual pump is hard work, which is why I think getting a good electric pump for your SUP is a very good idea if you plan on using your SUP semi-often.

And now, there is a way to make using the electric pump even easier: with this BATTERY POWERED Outdoormaster Whale pump for SUPs and other inflatables.

Video review of the Outdoormaster Whale Pump

I’ve been using the Whale pump for a while now, so I thought creating a video review showing what the pump can do would be a good idea.

After watching the video, you should have a rough idea of whether the pump is right for you. The only slight negative I found with it was that its max PSI rating is 16 PSI, which is lower than the average 20 PSI of other electric pumps that do not have batteries built-in.

But in reality, most SUPs have a working pressure of 12-15 PSI. I personally have never inflated over 15 PSI in my life, but I know that some super-high-performance SUPs can be inflated to above 20 PSI.

Pros

Battery-powered SUP pump, so convenient
Lots of nozzles to inflate anything you want
USB charging feature
LED light built-in

Cons

Bit more expensive than other pumps (so use the coupon code)
16 PSI max pressure

Features of the Whale Pump

This pump has every feature you could ask for from a retail-grade electric SUP pump.

Strong, fast inflation with automatic shutoff

I was not expecting the Whale to be fast at all, since it runs on a battery.

Boy, was I wrong.

Whale Pump Inflation Time

The pump is fast. It inflated my favorite SUP to 12 PSI in under 8 minutes. It would take 8-10 minutes with other electric pumps, and about 12 with a manual pump.

You can specify the pressure you need the Whale to inflate to in 0.5 PSI increments. Once the target pressure is reached, the pump shuts off automatically to avoid over-inflation.

Inflate 3+ SUPs on a single charge

The past weekend, we were down at Lake Balaton in Hungary for a day of sailing, and I took the Whale pump and my Chasing Blue SUP.

It turned out that my friends brought 2 other SUPs (with manual pumps), so I offered to inflate theirs as well with the Whale.

Outdoormaster Whale 2 Sups

Out of the 3 SUPs, 2 were inflated to 12 PSI, and one to 15 PSI. All of them were 10′ 6″ long.

As you can see below, the Whale pump’s LCD display showed that it still had half charge remaining as it finished with the last SUP.

This leads me to believe that it could have definitely inflated a 4th SUP, maybe even a 5th one.

Of course, you don’t want to totally deplete the charge of Li-Ion batteries to lengthen their lifespan.

LCD display with backlight

The LCD display of the Whale pump lets you know exactly what is going on during the inflation process, but does not overcomplicate things at all.

Whale Pump Display

You can see the following on the display:

  • your target pressure
  • actual realtime pressure
  • low or high inflation mode
  • cooling fan on or off
  • battery charge level

The LCD has a nice backlight feature, so you can see it in the dark, or in bright daylight.

Nozzle adapters

Thanks to the adapters that come attached to the hose, the Whale pump evolves from a SUP pump to a universal pump.

The adapters are:

  • Boston valve
  • C7 valve
  • H3/HR valve
  • Pinch valve
  • 805 valve
Outdoormaster Whale Valve Connectors

Thanks to these nozzle adapters, you can inflate any inflatable you have, for example:

  • inflatable boats
  • inflatable kayaks
  • mattresses
  • tubes
  • etc.

Built-in battery

Whale Pump Chargers

The Outdoormaster Whale pump has a built-in 6000 mAh battery.

The provided AC adapter has an output of 1 amper, so it takes a few hours to fully charge the pump. When you plug the pump into an electrical outlet, the LED lights on the pump turn bright blue. After the pump is charged, they turn white.

Once charged, the pump just keeps on going. I’ve pumped 3 SUPs in a row with it, and the LCD display still showed half charge.

If I had to guess, you could pump 4-5 SUPs in a row without problems.

How to take care of the Whale pump’s battery?

The 6000 mAh battery in the pump is Lithium-Ion, so it will be durable and last a long time, especially if you take care of it. Here are some tips on how to get the longest life out of Li-Ion batteries:

  • Store it at around 50% charge if you don’t use it for months
  • Never store it depleted, charge it when you get home
  • Charging to around 85%
  • Generally, working the battery between 25-85% charge rates is optimal

This will ensure you get 500+ charge cycles out of the battery, which equals many years of worry-free SUPing!

USB connectors

The Whale pump can double as a power bank, thanks to the dual USB ports hidden under a safety cover in the compartment area.

Through the USB connections, you can use the battery of the pump to charge any device you need to, for example:

  • phones
  • tablets
  • speakers
  • etc.

Deflation feature

Deflating your SUP with the Whale is easy. Simply plug your hose into the deflation socket, turn the power on, and it will suck every bit of air out of your SUP.

Whale Pump Inflate Deflate

There is no deflation automatic shut-off, so you need to be near the pump, as it deflates very quickly.

How do you know deflation is finished?

Your SUP will be flat, and the volume of the pump’s compressor will lower significantly.

Warranty & Returns

Every Outdoormaster pump has a 1-year warranty. If anything goes wrong (which I doubt), you are covered for a year.

You can also return the pump for 30 days after purchase in unused condition, in case you don’t like it for some reason.

These are important since it shows the company stands behind its product.

Technical Specs

The design of this pump is very futuristic, as you can see. The unique LED lights only add to the modern image of the pump.

Who is the Outdoormaster Whale pump for?

If you have an inflatable SUP that you need to inflate-deflate often, the Whale pump is a great choice. You can use it to inflate several SUPs in a row on a single charge.

It is highly versatile thanks to its various nozzle adapters, and its built-in battery makes it super portable as well.

Just remember to charge it at home 🙂

Alternative SUP pumps

There are loads of inflatable SUP pumps on the market, but having tried many of them, I can say that a lot of them are not dependable.

Here is a list of the best SUP pumps of 2024.

Specifically, here are 2 that I would recommend as alternatives if you don’t like something about the Outdoormaster Whale Pump.

Alternative 1: Nixy Ventus pump

This SUP pump is modern and has a full set of features. It even has a nice carry case, that fits all of its accessories as well.

Nixy Ventus Pump

As you can see in my detailed review of the Nixy pump, it can inflate 10+ SUPs in a row, it just keeps on going.

However, it does not have a built-in battery, like the Whale.

Alternative 2: Outdoormaster Dolphin

The Dolphin is another one of my favorite SUP pumps, simply because it is tiny and affordable.

Outdoormaster Dolphin Sup Pump

The small size comes with compromises though, specifically, that it does not have active cooling, nor a deflation feature. And of course, it does not have a built-in battery either.

You can read more about the Dolphin here.
